Secrets Moxché in Playa del Carmen is one of my favorite venues for exactly that reason. Its architecture, natural textures, lush surroundings, and beautifully designed spaces create a visual language that moves effortlessly between refined elegance and the raw beauty of the Riviera Maya.
For Whitney and Grant, that balance felt especially fitting.
With around 50 guests and eight hours of coverage, we planned the timeline together several days before the wedding, making sure there was room for everything they wanted without making the day feel rushed.
They chose a first look so we could photograph their family portraits earlier in the day and then use the time to explore several of Secrets Moxché's distinctive locations. This gave us the freedom to move through the resort and create portraits that felt varied, intentional, and connected to the place.
But one of my favorite choices came directly from Whitney.
Their engagement photographs had been taken in a bar, and she wanted to carry some of that same aesthetic into their wedding day — something a little more editorial, relaxed, and unexpected, rather than having every portrait feel traditionally romantic.
That is how Dark Horse at Secrets Moxché became the perfect setting.
With its darker tones, casual atmosphere, and sports-bar character, it gave us a completely different visual language from the tropical surroundings of the resort. It felt polished without being overly formal, and, more importantly, it echoed something that was already part of their story.
